A recent Chinese-speaking celebration drew a combined attendance of 10,900 people.

Conducted by New Creation Church at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, the two services were held to commemorate the Mid-Autumn festival.

In the course of the September 26 event, 155 people made the decision to receive Jesus Christ into their hearts, according to the church website.

This year’s turnout at the annual event was significantly larger than in the previous year, which saw an attendance of around 7,100 people. Response to the message has also grown more than 50 percent from 96 people in 2008.

Local celebrities Kelvin Soh and Xia Hui gave special performances. Soh, a well-known former drug addict turned Gospel singer and composer, shared his testimony. Xia was a popular singer during the 1970s.

This was followed by a sermon from Pastor Mark Ng, who preached in the Hokkien dialect. An assistant pastor in the NCC Chinese ministry Christina Wee interpreted the message for the Mandarin-speaking participants.

The evangelistic event was first organised in 2006 by the NCC Chinese ministry led by Pastor Ng, whose ministry reaches out to the Mandarin and Hokkien-speaking communities with a weekly attendance of more than 1,500 people.
