TWR-Asia Goes on Facebook, Twitter

Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009 Posted: 5:30:04PM HKT

The regional arm of a Christian broadcasting ministry has just announced the launch of its Facebook and Twitter pages.

Through the popular social networking platforms, Trans World Radio-Asia aims to provide more regular updates about its ministry.

TWR-Asia has been expanding its online presence throughout the year.

In early May, the Singapore-based ministry arm launched its website.

Spotlighting ministry outreach in the ‘vast’ spiritually needy areas of the world, the portal presents up-to-date stories, facts and features about people whose lives have been transformed by TWR’s broadcasts into key areas like China and Cambodia.

The multifaceted site also features country by country ministry profiles, programme schedules, a few audio feeds.

A brief viewing of these country profiles by The Christian Post shows that they highlight the needs of the countries and the way in which TWR in its particular contexts is contributing to the greater ministry.

The website points out that in Cambodia, for instance, despite the growth of the Church there, there is a lack of many resources like trained pastors, availability of Bibles and Christian materials and well-equipped church buildings.

Churches in Japan face the dual challenge of finding trained pastors in a nation where the norm for the age of a pastor is nearly 60 years.

Nepal is facing a problem of poverty, with around 40 percent of the population living below the poverty line. Most indicators suggest that poverty, which remains widespread, is on the rise. This is in spite of some progress in poverty reduction in recent years and declining rates of urban poverty.

In the Philippines, TWR is helping address the issues of biblical training for church leaders, spiritual needs of the people, marriage and family problems, domestic violence, out-of-school young people, drug abuse as well as teenage pregnancy and abortion.

TWR-Asia in Hong Kong uses mass media to bring the Gospel to millions of Chinese around the world, instruct believers in biblical doctrines and daily Christ-like living and equip them to be spiritual leaders.

In other places, like Singapore and Vietnam, the ministry is working with the local churches. The team in Australia works to raise money and prayer support for well-constructed, Strategic Partnership Projects that seek to make a difference in the lives of people in countries where they are implemented.

Last month, TWR-Asia sent out the first issue of its e-newsletter Ripples, which serves to showcase the work of God through its ministry in Asia.

TWR-Asia has a ministry presence in eleven countries in the continent.

One of the largest Christian mass media organisations, TWR has a presence in 165 countries broadcasting either by radio, digital means or satellite in 225 languages.
