World Vision: Singapore Donations in 2008 Benefited 1.56M

Singapore contributions to disaster relief work undertaken by World Vision last year have benefited 1,558,700 people in developing countries.
The aid, amounting to $10,332,639, benefited 107,870 children, according to the NGO’s annual report for the period October 2007 through September 2008.
In line with World Vision's mandate and accountability to its supporters to keep expenses low so that more can be provide to help impoverished communities, the total expenditure for the office: administration, communication and public information was $2,037,049 or 20 percent of the total donations.
World Vision Singapore received gifts in kind donations amounting to $345,099 for the needy communities it assisted.
The NGO has also apportioned $1,552,240 toward World Vision International’s emergency relief and rehabilitation efforts worldwide.
A remainder of $90,621 will be sent next year.
On 2 May 2008, Cyclone Nargis hit Myanmar, sweeping two states and ravaging seven townships in the Ayeyarwady region. Thousands of lives were lost and many more were left homeless.
Singaporeans contributed $1,052,597 to the relief and rehabilitation efforts, benefiting more than 347,000 people.
A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck China’s Wenchuan County in north Sichuan on 12 May 2008. World Vision received $229,861 and responded to some 700,000 people who received immediate help such as food and shelter materials.
A long-term relief and rehabilitation plan that will benefit some 1.1 million has also been implemented.
In 2008, World Vision served more than 100 million people, worked in 98 countries, provided 3.6 million children with sponsorship, gave care and support to 998,000 orphans and vulnerable children and raised $3.6 billion in cash and goods for its work.
